| In 1994, having already retired at least twice, Ellis Horwood MBE founded Albion Publishing, now known as Horwood Publishing Limited, and continued to be the driving force behind the company until his death in February 2007 at the age of 95.
The publishing career of Ellis Horwood spanned 8 decades – making him the oldest working publisher in Great Britain. His professional involvement in the book trade started in Macmillan (London and India), followed by service in Hutchinson, Elsevier and Van Nostrand, before founding his own company, Ellis Horwood Limited, in 1972.
Ellis Horwood Ltd achieved great success as a specialised international publisher of science and technology, publishing some 2000 books before being sold after 17 years. A working life among books and authors is not easily extinguished though, and in response to requests from many authors, Ellis was tempted out of retirement (again!) to form the present company, Horwood Publishing Ltd, continuing the well-known and respected family imprint.
Now in the hands of Ellis’s youngest son Mark Horwood and a team of former colleagues, Horwood Publishing Limited has an extensive list of respected authors expanding into new areas of research. We have considerable expertise which can prove helpful to our authors, both in the planning and preparation of books and in the marketing and distribution. We are always happy to hear from new authors who feel they would benefit from our services, so please don’t hesitate to contact us. |
